Pioneer Leads Award Parade

GRAND RAPIDS — The Western Michigan Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors handed out its 2003 Awards of Excellence last week at the group’s yearly awards program.

Thirty-six awards were presented from the 105 projects that were submitted.

Pioneer Construction led the list of multiple company winners with three awards, while the GVSU Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences was the project honored the most, with five awards to its credit.

Triangle Associates Inc. won the 2003 Award of Excellence for construction safety.

The program and dinner were at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.

The list of 2003 ABC/WMC winners is:

  • Buildings over $30 million — Pioneer Construction, GVSU Cook-DeVos Center For Health Sciences

  • Buildings $20-$30 million — Lakewood Inc., Zeeland Public High School

  • Buildings $10-$20 million — Dan Vos Construction Co., Richard & Helen DeVos Center for Arts and Worship

  • Buildings $3-$6 million — Pioneer Construction, Gaines Charter Township Hall

  • Buildings $2-3 million — Lakewood Inc., The Bank of Holland

  • Buildings $1-$2 million — Wolverine Building Group, Grooters-Peregrine Pointe Office

  • Buildings under $1 million — Houseman Construction Co., Commercial Bank

  • Specialty Construction — Owen-Ames-Kimball Co., Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park Amphitheatre

  • Pre-Engineered Construction — Pioneer Construction, Bauer Christian Reformed Church

  • Historical Restoration — Owen-Ames-Kimball Co., Grand Rapids Public Library
