EAST GRAND RAPIDS — After six weeks of intense brainstorming, prioritizing and designing, the Mayor’s Community Concept Team is scheduled to present its preliminary recommendations for an East Grand Rapids city complex renovation and expansion plan.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 6 p.m., tonight, in Little Auditorium on the campus of East Grand Rapids High School.

Appointed in December by Mayor Cindy Bartman, the Concept Team was charged with developing a plan for the city complex that included vision, value and voter appeal.

“We started with one concept in mind; that this center must incorporate features that make it functional and family-friendly for at least the next 30 years,” said Steve Edison, who is chairman of the Concept Team. “The proposal that will be presented Monday evening was built from the ground up based on the needs of our community as identified by the team. We ended up with an excellent plan that will enable our entire community to take advantage of one of our city’s greatest assets, Reeds Lake. And, it offers value because nearly 30 percent of the complex will be shared, multi-purpose space.”

After residents and city officials have reviewed the plan, the city commission will consider whether to present it to voters.
