HOLLAND — The Holland Area Chamber of Commerce says May 4 is the nominations deadline for its sixth annual People-Friendly Workplace Award.

The chamber will confer the honor during its June early bird breakfast.

According to the chamber’s Healthy Community Committee, a people-friendly workplace is one that may offer flexible work schedules including compressed workweeks, job-sharing and work-at-home opportunities.

Other attributes of such a firm, the committee adds, might be on-site child care or a sick-child program, paternity leave options and a phase-back plan for new mothers.

It says another area of interest is the matter of balance between work and living.

Some firms conduct employee surveys, it indicated, while others offer employee and manager training and elder care.

Also falling under the heading of people-friendly, the committee said, are firms that strive to encourage professional development, personal health and community development.

The committee says it urges firms of all sizes to nominate themselves for the award.

Among the past winners of the award have been Fleetwood Group Inc., Sordal Inc., Holland Community Hospital and Johnson Controls.

The chamber advises that firms or employees who are chamber members may obtain nomination forms from the chamber, 272 E. 8th St., or by calling the chamber office, 392-2389.
