MDOT Wants Plan Comments Soon
The plan is available at MDOT’s regional offices and transportation service centers, and on the Web at www.michigangov/mdot under “Projects and Programs.”
Copies of the plan are available by sending an e-mail to MDOT-PublicInvolvementPlan@michigan.gov or by writing to: Public Involvement Plan, Michigan Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Planning, P.O. Box 30050, Lansing, MI 48909.
The agency said it seeks comments on the plan from citizens and all public and private sector organizations. “We encourage residents and groups to review and evaluate this plan and share their thoughts with us,” said Gloria Jeff, the state transportation director.
She explained that MDOT is developing the public involvement plan in accord with requirements of the federal Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st Century.
The act requires every state to plan public involvement in major transportation planning projects such as the State Long Range Plan (SLRP) and the State Transportation Improvement Program.
Jeff said the plan describes an array of methods and activities to implement public involvement strategies. And she said that involvement will guide MDOT’s efforts to identify and accommodate Michigan’s transportation needs.
The SLRP is a 25-year improvements program that establishes policies and actions necessary to achieve transportation goals. The STIP lists all transportation projects scheduled for construction in the next three years and identifies funding for them.
