BYRON TOWNSHIP — Securing final local zoning approval allows Saint Mary's Health Care to begin the final planning and designs for a new $35 million medical campus in Byron Township.

Saint Mary's Health Care is shooting for groundbreaking this summer for the Southwest Outpatient Campus and occupancy in early 2007.

Byron Township trustees last week approved a rezoning request to accommodate the medical center, planned for a 22.4-acre site along Byron Center Avenue and 64th Street, adjacent to M-6.

With the rezoning approved, Saint Mary's Health Care will now work to complete the 91,000-square-foot facility's design and prepare to bid out the project, spokeswoman Jennifer Cammenga said.

Saint Mary's will initially develop space for physician offices, an urgent care center, diagnostic and clinical labs, outpatient surgery, medical imaging such as MRI and CT, physical therapy, a pharmacy, a fitness trail and programs to promote healthy lifestyles.

The Southwest Outpatient Campus will represent Saint Mary's Health Care's largest location away from its main 324-bed, acute-care hospital in Grand Rapids.
