Alticor Betting On Krill Oil
ADA — Neptune Technologies & Bioresources Inc. has concluded a clinical trial agreement with Alticor subsidiary Access Business Group LLC to evaluate its Neptune Krill Oil (NKO) product.
Neptune develops and exploits marine biomasses, such as krill, with its patented extraction process, Neptune OceanExtract.
Depending on the results of the trial, Access may sign a licensing agreement with Neptune to market a formulation of the product.
“This opens up the door to a mutually prosperous and successful relationship between Neptune and Access in numerous areas and markets,” said Tina Sampalis, Neptune vice president of research and development. “We are enthusiastic about the fact that a company such as Access has decided to do a clinical trial with our NKO product.”
The Access evaluation is wrapping up as a trio of other NKO-based Alticor products hits the shelves. Twinlab Corp. debuted its Krill Essentials line at the Natural Products Expo West 2005 in February. The line — which includes Joint Krill Oil, Cardio Krill Oil and PMS Krill Oil — became available at health and natural food retailers nationwide this month.
Ruined by the ephedra scandal in 2003, Twinlab fell into bankruptcy court and was later purchased for roughly $60 million by IdeaSphere Inc., the closely held venture of the Van Andel family.
