GRAND RAPIDSGrandValleyStateUniversity on Monday became the newest member of the Core Technology Alliance, a consortium of advanced research and technology facilities across the state.

GrandValley partnered with the Van Andel Institute last year to establish the Michigan Good Manufacturing Practices facility, a 7,000-square-foot clean room facility that is under construction on GrandValley's Pew Campus downtown.

The GMP facility will be called Grand River Aseptic Pharmaceutical Packaging and is designed to meet the nationwide need for sterile filling and packaging of drugs used in small- scale, early-phase human clinical trials. The Core Technology Alliance will market and promote the facility's services for small pharmaceutical firms, educational institutions and government entities.

Alliance members also include Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Van Andel Research Institute, WayneStateUniversity and WesternMichiganUniversity
