JW Marriott Showcases Steelcase Furniture

GRAND RAPIDS — Amway Hotel Corp., which owns the new JW Marriott, sees the new luxury hotel as an "opportunity to showcase West Michigan products," according to the hotel general manager, George Aquino.

Probably the most prominent display of a West Michigan product is furniture — of course.

"We still are the Furniture City," noted Aquino.

In the interior design stage, Amway Hotel Corp. decided to partner with Steelcase Inc. for much of the furniture. Steelcase seating and tables are installed throughout the public areas of the hotel, which includes the lobby, Mixology (the bar), the business center (a fully equipped office for use by business travelers), two executive board rooms, and two lounges, the Maia Lounge on the 19th floor and the Concierge Lounge on the 23rd floor.

Perhaps the most ubiquitous Steelcase product in the hotel is the Steelcase Leap 2 chair, one of which is in every one of the 337 guest rooms, plus a few other areas.

Steelcase Think chairs are also in use in the hotel administrative offices and in the business center, according to Aquino.
