GRAND RAPIDS — Trinity Health, parent company of Saint Mary’s Health Care, has launched a Web site aimed at recruiting minority suppliers.

Gregory Mott, director of materials management at Saint Mary’s, said the site includes a form for vendors to register with the information that Trinity Health needs.

“Minority suppliers frequently struggle with how to access the health care industry. We really have to dig to try to find minority suppliers when we want to get them on the big list,” Mott said.

The Web site is aimed at solving those problems by putting information about vendors into a database that is accessible by the 46 hospitals Trinity Health either owns or manages, he said. Registration is free.

“Hospitals are like communities in and of themselves,” Mott added. “We use food service items, catering, window-washing, cleaning of offsite clinics — any number of goods and services. The really high dollar value items are national contracts. If we can identify minority suppliers, we can try to help them network with the group purchasing orders we use.”

The Web site information may be found at at www.trinity-health.org/initiatives/supplierdiversity.asp

According to audited financial statements on Trinity Health’s Web site, the company spent nearly $1 billion on supplies and $472.8 million on purchased services in fiscal 2006.

“I just want the vendor community to know this is available and out there, and is a good way to contact us,” Mott said.
