GRAND RAPIDS — Local consulting firm Leadership Capital Group has officially changed its name to ThinkWise, in conjunction with its launch of a proprietary Web-based application and content library called ThinkWise.

ThinkWise is an organizational development application designed for small and mid-sized businesses — basically the essence of LCG’s expertise, online, according to a company representative. She said the new ThinkWise application helps organizations establish “wish lists” regarding new hires and employee performance/development, and offers informational tools to help them do it. Virtual “e-coaches” offer help to employees/managers — from tips to resolving conflicts to training managers how to reward good work and become better leaders.

ThinkWise also offers companies hiring tools such as candidate assessments, interview guides, performance review modules and development tools for managers and executives.

The new Web-based application allows companies like Canteen Services Inc. to stay in close contact with its work force. Canteen Services is based in Belmont but has 800 employees at 80 sites across the southern Lower Peninsula of Michigan and northern Indiana.

Canteen Services CEO Craig Tiggleman said his company uses ThinkWise both to communicate with employees and for employee development.

"It's a great way to keep (our employees) aligned with our corporate goals," said Tiggleman. "Being spread out, sometimes (the site managers) don’t get the support they need right away. This helps. It's really a boon for us."

Canteen is finding success in its own right. According to Tiggleman, Canteen Services in Michigan is the largest and oldest Canteen franchise in the U.S. It was started by his grandfather, Fred Tiggleman, 75 years ago. Tiggleman's father, also named Fred, is chairman of the company. Craig Tiggleman and his brother, Jeff, who is president and COO, now run the company. Tiggleman said their core business is vending machines in manufacturing plants, but because manufacturing is struggling in Michigan these days, the vending business has seen better days.

"But our Tigg's Dining is booming," he added.

Canteen Services has had a food service division, in addition to vending machines, for 30 years. A few years ago the company re-branded its food service as Tigg's Dining, and today the division operates more than 50 cafeterias at large corporations and institutions, including 30 county jails in Michigan.

Canteen is part of The Compass Group, a British firm that is the world's largest contract food service company, with operations in 64 countries employing a total of 360,000 people.
