County Buys Court Site
GRAND RAPIDS — Kent County commissioners agreed last week to buy 5.3 acres on Knapp Street NE, just east of East Beltline Avenue, from Grand Rapids Township as the site for a new consolidated 63rd District courthouse.
The transaction is expected to cost the county $1.52 million, with $895,000 of that total going to the property purchase and closing costs. Another $625,000 will be spent to make infrastructure improvements to the site.
The county won’t close on the deal until it receives an acceptable baseline environmental assessment of the land, which reportedly contains arsenic.
