City Wins Development Honor
GRAND RAPIDS — The Grand Valley Metro Council will present its 2008 Blueprint Award to the city of Grand Rapids on Thursday during the council’s annual Growing Communities Conference.
The council is honoring the city for its new zoning code for neighborhoods and business districts called Zone Grand Rapids, a four-year effort that City Planning Director Suzanne Schulz headed.
“It has created a bunch of new opportunities for developers that doesn’t make them jump through hoops,” said GVMC Land-Use Director Andy Bowman.
The council 15th conference will take place in the Prince Center at Calvin College from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and features seminars that will focus on urban development.
