GRAND RAPIDS — Great Lakes Green 2008 is bringing in actor, environmentalist and co-star of the HGTV show, “Living with Ed,” Ed Begley, Jr., to speak at its inaugural conference Aug. 21-23 DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

According to a news release, the conference/exhibition will feature educational sessions for both industry professionals and the public with more than 100 exhibitors displaying “green” products and services for members of the media and other invited attendees.

“When it comes to the green building movement and taking care of our environment, not many people can match the track record of Ed Begley, Jr.,” said Rich Kogelschatz, president of Heartland Builders LLC and chair of Great Lakes Green 2008. “As the official spokesperson for MyGreenCottage, Mr. Begley continues to spread awareness of how easy and affordable it is to build green."

Begley’s work in the environmental community has earned him a number of awards from some of the most prestigious environmental groups in the nation, including the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Coalition for Clean Air, Heal the Bay and the Santa Monica Baykeeper. As an actor, Begley first came to audiences’ attention as Dr. Erhlich on the long-running television series “St. Elsewhere,” for which he received six Emmy nominations. He became the official spokesperson for the leading national green building company, MyGreenCottage, this year.

Begley will offer green-home solutions, identify the latest breakthroughs in green home design and dispel myths about going green. He will sign copies of his new book, Living Like Ed, at MyGreenCottage’s booth.
