Seminar on energy set
WEST OLIVE — The Ottawa County Planning Commission is offering a training seminar Jan. 15 for anyone interested in solar and geothermal energy sources for homes, farms and businesses.
The seminar runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the main conference room of the Administration Building in the Ottawa County Fillmore Street Complex in West Olive; it will feature renewable energy experts Mark Bauer of Bauer Power and Rob Derksen of Michigan Energy Services.
An announcement from the Planning and Grants Department notes that there is strong interest in solar and geothermal energy in West Michigan but that many home, farm and business owners are hesitant to invest in it because of their unanswered questions.
The seminar will be split into two one-hour sections, with separate presentations on solar and geothermal. Each presentation will include information about the general operation of a system and the feasibility of using one — including costs of installing, operating and maintaining the system.
Although open to anyone, the training is ideal for planning commission members, planners, local government officials, architects and engineers. The training is offered free, but it has been approved by the American Planning Association for credits toward certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners. People seeking the credits must pay a fee ranging from $20 to $25.
To register or for more information, call the Ottawa County Planning and Grants Department at (616) 738-4852.
