Operator Specialty Co. of Casnovia needs a larger space, so it’s moving to 2547 Three Mile Road NW in Walker and plans to add from 10 to 15 jobs during 2011, according to general manager Paul Stevens.

OSCO manufactures gate and large-door operating systems for home, commercial and industrial purposes. Founded here in 1975, the company was acquired by Linear, a California company, in 2003.

Stevens said the company now has 51 employees at its Casnovia location and all are expected to remain when it begins production in Walker in January. The manufacturer has leased almost 89,000 square feet of space that will bring it closer to its suppliers and contractors, in addition to being larger.

The largest part of its business is in production of large industrial plant gate operators, according to Stevens.

OSCO came through the recession “in pretty good shape. We didn’t grow during that time, but we didn’t lose, either,” he said.

He attributes that to being in the security products industry.

Some of Linear’s other locations in the U.S. were closed recently, and that production is being shifted to Walker. The company also has a plant in China.

The real estate transaction was brokered by Olga Hallstedt of Results! Commercial Real Estate Services.
