Start Garden invests in craft beer apps and movie perks
First came the breweries. Now comes the brewery apps.
Start Garden, of course, is behind this entrepreneurial development. This week, Rick DeVos’ venture seed fund split $10,000 between two startup ideas, one of which is named Brewhouse Apps.
The brew app, hand-picked by the Start Garden team for a $5,000 boost, plans is to developa keg tracking service application through Keg Hound, allowing breweries to know where their kegs are, what kind of brew they carry and timeframes for arrival.
“Starting out in Grand Rapids, Beer City USA for two years in a row, Brewhouse Apps would work closely with the many breweries established in the area. This would help ensure our applications can meet the needs of our clients,” wrote idea creator Christopher Davis on his Start Garden page. “According to Brewers Association, there are over 2,000 craft breweries in the United States. That’s a sizable market to tap into.”
Public endorsement on Start Garden’s website selected a startup movie rewards website idea named CinePerks for $5,000 in funding. Similar to Disney Movie Rewards, the CinePerks website would offer movie rewards, but would expand the offers to all films.
“CinePerks lets you access movie rentals and streaming content from all your favorite providers (Amazon, Redbox, Netflix, iTunes, etc.) directly from a single website. Plus, for every movie you watch at home, you earn cash back to buy movie tickets and concessions at your local theater,” wrote idea creator Philip Holmes on his Start Garden page.
“We’ll link to streaming and rental content from our website to the providers of that content directly. Once we’ve built up a user community we’ll use the partnership we’ve established with Lionsgate to stream our own content. In either case, we’ll offer rewards for users to redeem at local theaters.”
Start Garden’s next Update Night, which is when funded ideas return to report on their progress, isset for Thursday, June 27.
