A brewery has reinforced its reputation as one of the world’s finest breweries by taking home two medals at European Beer Star 2013 in Munich, Germany.

Founders Brewing’s Porter and Mango Magnifico con Calor medaled at the international competition, which hosted more than 1,500 beers from 40 countries.

Grand Rapids-based Founders Brewing took home two of the 37 awards U.S. breweries brought home.

Germany took home more than 55 of the 153 medals.

Mango Magnifico con Calor won a gold medal in the herb and spice beer category.

It was one of 10 American beers to place first in 51 categories.

Three medals were awarded — gold, silver and bronze — by a blind taste-test panel of 102 judges.

“Winning the gold medal award for such an experimental beer is a testament to the fact that North American craft breweries, including Founders, are now being recognized internationally for pushing the envelope in creating new and exciting flavor profiles — and for doing it well,” Founders Brewing Co-Founder Dave Engbers said.

Founders Brewing’s Porter won a bronze medal in the Baltic-style porter category.
