Stanford scientists rank West Michigan brews among 'best beers in the world'
A pair of Stanford researchers has reduced analyzing millions of beer reviews to a science — and four West Michigan brews rank among the 20 “best beers in the world.”
Stanford University computer science post-doc researcher Julian McAuley and assistant professor of computer science Jure Leskovec have developed a model that separates expert users from beginners on review websites, according to a Business Insider story.
Four Michigan-made beers make up 20 percent of Business Insider’s “20 best beers in the world.”
Bell’s Brewery, Galesburg: Expedition Stout, No. 4; Hopslam Ale, No. 18 and Batch 7,000 Ale, No. 19.
Founders Brewing Co., Grand Rapids: Kentucky Breakfast Stout, No. 6.
Three Floyd’s Brewing Co., Munster, Ind.: Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout, No. 2; Dreadnaught Imperial IPA, No. 5.
Goose Island, Chicago: Bourbon County Stout, No. 9.
Surly Brewing Co., Brooklyn Center, Minn.: Darkness Russian Imperial Stout, No. 13
The No. 1 beer is Westvleteren’s 12, which is brewed by monks in Belgium at Trappist Abbey.
