Community Media Center searches for executive director
The Grand Rapids Community Media Center has retained a professional search firm to help it find a new executive director.
The nonprofit is looking for a leader after it said goodbye this week to Laurie Cirivello — who’s joining Priority Health.
The CMC said that a job description will be posted and circulated in the coming days, and a new director is expected to be in place in early 2014.
The CMC has been a staple in the Grand Rapids media and entertainment landscape for more than 25 years, providing the community access to media tools and technology.
CMC operates The Rapidian, a citizen-journalism website, Wealthy Theatre and is home to the GRTV cable access channel 25 and 88.1 FM WYCE radio.
“Laurie has been an incredible leader and a visionary champion of community media,” CMC Board President Janay Brower said.
Brower added that Cirivello shepherded the development and launch of The Rapidian and the “greening” of the Wealthy Theatre, as well as the use of new community-building technology.
During the transition, Kayem Dunn will be the organization's interim executive director.
Dunn comes to the CMC with experience as an interim, transitional leader.
The CMC said it will “continue to be grounded in an intentionally inclusive approach to community media.”
