Start Garden invests in service industry app

A background in automotive repair and his job in user experience at Universal Mind gave Matt Kortering an idea that blended both worlds.

His idea was for Progress, a startup that would allow service providers and customers to communicate through a mobile app or web browser.

Here’s a scenario: let’s say a customer drops their car off at an auto repair shop. Using Progress, the workers and the customer can interact, monitor the car’s progress, request updates, submit estimates, offer approvals and pay bills.

The Start Garden team decided last week to invest $5,000 into Progress.

Initially, Progress will focus on the automotive repair market, but would be designed for larger-scale expansion, Kortering said.

He plans to use the Start Garden funding to develop the prototype.

“Progress could be used by any service provider, connecting with multiple customers,” Kortering writes on his Start Garden page. “Likewise, Progress could be used by one individual customer, connecting with multiple service providers.

“Progress is also designed to be provider agnostic, meaning users can utilize Progress to manage services from multiple providers at the same time,” Kortering added.
