TG Manufacturing acquires steel maker
TG Manufacturing of Grand Rapids, a division of Tiger Industrial Systems, has acquired a steel maker in the region.
Craft Steel in Spring Lake is a small business involved in metal stamping, metal fabrication, laser cutting and robotic welding, at 16880 148th Ave.
It supplies a variety of industrial sectors, including agriculture, automotive, furniture, medical equipment and construction.
A spokesperson for the company said Craft Steel employed about nine or 10 people.
It was owned by Brian D. Burnside, 55, who passed away in August.
Craft Steel’s laser cutting and CNC brake-press capabilities add a critical component to TGM’s full system metal processing, according to TGM President Rich Achtenberg.
“Craft Steel will assist us in evolving into one of the most vertically integrated, diverse process capable, full system metal suppliers in the manufacturing space,” Achtenberg said. “This acquisition represents an important opportunity for us to expand in the U.S. market, and we believe we are well-positioned to grow our market share in several new industrial spaces.”
TG Manufacturing’s global network, advanced manufacturing technology and quality systems, combined with Craft Steel’s process knowledge and superior delivery record will result in a stronger organization, according to TG Manufacturing.
“We look forward to expanding Craft Steel’s already significant penetration in a number of industrial sectors,” said TGM Vice President of Operations Garret Strbik. “Craft Steel will be an excellent manufacturing platform fit into the Tiger Industrial Systems portfolio of companies and manufacturing process capability.”
Privately held TG Manufacturing is a diverse Lansing-based group of manufacturing companies with customers in many industrial sectors, including aerospace, automotive, material handling, HVAC, furniture, appliances, renewable energy and construction.
It has offices in downtown Grand Rapids and owns several West Michigan companies, including Dorr Industries, AIM Industries and Dorr Industries Outdoor Products.
Inc. magazine ranks TG Manufacturing No. 1,111 on its 2013 Inc. 500|5000, a ranking of the nation's fastest growing private companies. Among fastest growing manufacturing companies, TG Manufacturing ranks 25th nationally and second in Michigan.
