Amway scores college football poll
Amway is ready for some college football.
Ada-based Amway said last week that it is the first-ever exclusive title sponsor of the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The season-long poll establishes the weekly top 25 college football teams, as voted on by 64 Division I coaches.
Amway said the Amway Coaches Poll will be one of the tools that help determine which teams will play in the new College Football Playoff system in 2014.
The deal with USA Today Sports Media Group allows Amway to be the presenting sponsor of the American Football Coaches Association trophy.
The Waterford Crystal football will be awarded to the No. 1-ranked team — and national champion — in the Amway Coaches Poll, following the conclusion of the college football season.
Amway will also launch a companion Amway Fan Poll at usatoday.com as part of the deal, allowing for a “side-by-side” comparison with the Amway Coaches Poll.
“This partnership gives us an unprecedented platform to showcase the Amway business opportunity to an audience — fans, coaches, mentors — that we believe has a strong affinity for what we offer, which is a chance to own your own business and call your own shots,” said Jim Ayres, managing director of Amway North America.
Ayres added that the sponsorship aligns with the company’s values of “teamwork, leadership and mentorship.”
College football fans will see the partnership come to life through an integrated campaign, including advertising in print and digital, social media, PR and events.
“The Amway Coaches Poll will be one of the most closely watched barometers throughout the season of which teams are most likely to compete for a national title and a symbol of consistency in what has become quite a changing landscape,” said Dave Morgan, president of USA TODAY Sports Media Group.
Grant Teaff, executive director of the AFCA, said that the association’s coaches wanted the poll’s sponsor to be “an all-American company that mirrors the values which coaches instill in their teams and reflects the leadership and dedication of the members.”
