Rockford serves Restaurant Week

A group of restaurants in Rockford is serving up deals this week to raise enough money to buy 3,600 meals for hungry people.

Rockford Restaurant Week, which runs today through Saturday, returns for its second year to send $1 per meal to Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank.

Each restaurant will offer a three-course meal for two for $25.

Each meal ordered will allow Feeding America West Michigan to send four meals for those struggling with hunger.

Bostwick Lake Inn, The Corner Bar, Flo’s Pizzeria Ristorante and Sports Bar, Grill One Eleven, Honey Creek Inn and Reds on the River will participate in the week. The event is coordinated by Reds on the River.

For instance, The Family Feast for $30 from The Corner Bar includes 12 hot dogs and a basket of fries and will send $5 to Feeding America West Michigan.

“Every restaurant is so unique that it has something for everyone,” said Kristin Kent, general manager, Reds on the River.

Kent added that every time people come back to Rockford, they can “experience something different.”

The week will also showcase the community, including its restaurants, wine cellar, brewery and distillery.

And two more restaurants — Uccello’s and Ramona’s Table — are slated to open later this year.

“Rockford is a neat community,” Kent said. “It has a lot to offer, with all the little shops and restaurants, and in order to get people to start coming to Rockford, drawing them to the downtown area, we all need to work together."
