Law firm relocates lakeshore office
A local law firm is closer to the action now in downtown Grand Haven.
Attorney Jeff Beswick swears being closer to the beach had nothing to do with the decision by Grand Rapids-based Varnum to move its lakeshore office space to downtown Grand Haven.
The firm relocated this winter to a 3,000-square-foot space on the second floor of the Fifth Third building, at 233 Washington Ave.
The firm originally opened its lakeshore office 24 years ago in downtown Grand Haven, at 321 Washington Ave., and then later moved into the Chemical Bank building, at 1600 S. Beacon Blvd.
Beswick said downtown Grand Haven has made a lot of enhancements in recent years that made relocation attractive.
“Things like the heated sidewalks and streets, the new county courthouse, the library was remodeled and expanded, the community center was remodeled and there have been several business relocations downtown,” Beswick said.
Beswick added that the office location offers increased visibility and a greater opportunity for community involvement.
“There is a lot of nice features, connections and activities that being downtown gives you access to,” Beswick said.
Beswick said the firm has about the same amount of space at the new office, but it’s using the space differently.
“We allocated a lot of our old space to paper filing space,” Beswick said. “As we try more and more to move away from paper filing, we needed less and less of that sort of space.”
The office has a more open design. It also features a café space, rather than a traditional waiting room, and plenty of natural light.
“Our space is quite different and more modern,” Beswick said.
Beswick said the proximity to the Ottawa County courthouse has already proven helpful.
The Varnum Grand Haven office primarily serves lakeshore clients in the areas of business law, real estate, estate planning and litigation.
The office is comprised of Beswick and attorneys Mark Hills and Dean Reisner.
