Father, son team up for X Ventures
Bill Bowling joins real estate firm’s consulting division.
Chip Bowling, the president of X Ventures, has acquired a valuable new asset for his young, Grand Rapids-based real estate firm: his dad.
Bowling, who founded X Ventures, 44 Grandville Ave. SW, in December of last year, recently announced that his father, Bill Bowling, would join the firm and lead its consulting division after having served as a consultant for the past year. He will serve clients by offering consulting services as they relate to commercial real estate portfolio planning and management, and landlord and tenant matters.
“My approach is that all transactions need to be fair, with no clear-cut winners and losers. Fair and honest resolutions of problems and challenges are the cornerstone of my negotiating skills,” Bill said. “For a transaction to be completed with the scale tipped obviously to one side diminishes the possibility of a long-term relationship between the parties, creates distrust and burdens all of the parties. I choose to foster long-term relationships over a ‘win-lose’ result.”
Chip said he was excited to have his father, whose name is well-known in West Michigan, with more than 40 years in the commercial real estate industry, joining the company.
“Bill has brilliantly handled complex deals in a way that each side gets what they want; we are excited and blessed to have my dad working alongside us,” he said. “His knowledge, community connections and support are priceless. Our clients are just as excited and eager to engage my father in a consulting role to help assist and guide them through the complex world of commercial real estate brokerage, investing, development and financing decisions.”
The Bowlings are back together after spending more than a combined 30 years at Colliers International West Michigan, where Bill was a founding member and Chip worked in commercial real estate sales. Bill, who has also served as president at Sherwood Financial and Markland Development, started Paramount Properties, which became Grubb & Ellis Paramount and eventually Colliers International.
When Chip, following in his father’s entrepreneurial footsteps, started X Ventures last year, he brought along Bill’s long-time executive assistant, Diane Dusendang, who is now X Ventures’ chief operating officer.
“Bill has changed the ways commercial real estate is brokered,” Dusendang said. “Not only did he start and grow Paramount/Colliers, he helped mentor countless professionals in our area.”
Bill has served as president of both the Michigan Commercial Alliance of Realtors and Grand Rapids Commercial Alliance of Realtors, as well as director of the Michigan Association of Realtors. He has served on a number of boards and at organizations, including United Bank, Newstar Resources, MEDC’s CEO Council, Grand Rapids Parking Commission, the Downtown Alliance and Grand Rapids Economic Club.
Bill earned his B.A. in marketing at Michigan State University.
