Marina anchors used-boat sale
As the summer season comes to a close, a lakeshore pier is preparing to host a used-boat sale before owners store their vessels for the winter.
Pier 33 in St. Joseph, a boat dealer and marina, will host its 2014 Yacht Brokerage and Pre-Owned Boat Show this Saturday through Sept. 14.
Tighe Curran, general manager of Pier 33, said the timing of the show has been a big draw in recent years, since it allows interested buyers to still conduct sea trials and other tests before completing a sale.
“Many boat shoppers have spent the summer searching and want to make sure they’ve made their choice well ahead of the start of next year’s boating season,” Curran said.
“We’ve taken many more trade-ins this year and have a number of boaters ready to move up, so those boats are now for sale.”
The Yacht Brokerage and Pre-Owned Boat Show will feature display areas in the showroom facility and in the water, deals on new boats, storage and winterizing specials and several types vessels: a 1999 Maxum Sport Yacht 4100 SCA, with twin diesel engines; 1995 Carver 310 Express, with twin inboard motors; 2005 Regal Sport Boat 2200 Bowrider; 2008 Yamaha Boats Bowrider Series SX230; and more.
Due to the high demand by owners and growth in the used-boat market, the nine-day event at Pier 33 was extended from four days last year.
With the advantage of two full weekends, Curran said the event is less likely to get “weathered out,” and buyers will have added flexibility in when to attend the show.
