Cottage Bar chili cook-off on tap tomorrow
A longtime Grand Rapids event has a new sponsor this year.
Founders Brewing Co. is sponsoring the Cottage Bar’s 33rd Annual Chili Cook-Off, which takes place from noon to 6 p.m., Sept. 13, on LaGrave Street, right outside the restaurant.
“I’ve participated in Cottage Bar’s Chili Cook-Off for years,” Founders president John Green said in a release. “It’s one of my favorite events in Grand Rapids. You get that small neighborhood block party feeling with everyone cooking outside together, but it happens right downtown.”
WYCE is the event’s media sponsor and proceeds from the cook-off go to Grand Rapids Whitewater, an organization dedicated to restoring the Grand River rapids and one Founders supports regularly.
Tasting of the chili begins at 3:15 p.m., and tickets to taste chili are $1 each. Chefs and foodies make up a panel that will choose the winner of the cook-off.
Founders beer will be available with timed tappings throughout the afternoon. Attendees of the event will choose which chili pairs best with Founders Dirty Bastard, and a $100 Founders gift card will be awarded to the winning chili’s cook.
Live music will be provided by Fauxgrass, DarlenYa and Vox Viddora.
“What better combo for a fall event (than) chili and Founders’ world-class craft beer?” said Cottage Bar owner Dan Verhil.
