Bar ranks among top five in nation
A local bar has been voted the top beer bar in the region — and one of the top five bars in the U.S.
More than 3,400 nominations were voted on by more than 19,000 people at craftbeer.com in the Brewer’s Association’s 2014 “Great American Beer Bar” survey.
The Brewers Association said last week that HopCat in Grand Rapids was voted the No. 1 beer bar in the North Central Region, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas.
The other bars in the region are Ashley’s in Ann Arbor, Lizardville Beer Store & Whiskey Bar in Bedford Heights, Ohio, the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, Ill. and The Cellar Peanut Pub in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
“Now even more than ever, bars across the U.S. showcase the wide array of offerings from the more than 3,000 breweries in operation throughout the country,” the association website says.
As a regional winner, HopCat is also one of the five “Great American Beer Bars” in the U.S.
The bar joins the other regional winners that earned the national designation: Falling Rock Tap House in Denver, Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell, N.J., Bier Stein Bottle Shop & Pub in Eugene, Ore. and Mekong Restaurant in Richmond, Va.
“This recognition means so much to HopCat, because it comes as a result of support from our customers and the readers of CraftBeer.com, who love craft beer as much as we do,” said Mark Sellers, founder, HopCat. “The award also recognizes the passion of the team at HopCat to create a world-class craft beer bar.”
