Mediterranean restaurant chain enters market

A statewide chain of Mediterranean restaurants is on schedule to open its first location in West Michigan next month.

Red Olive Family Restaurants in Plymouth Township plans to open a restaurant on Nov. 1 near Centerpointe Mall in Grand Rapids, at 3563 28th St. SE, said Pete Goulas, the chain’s owner.

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant is being renovated and will seat about 130 customers.

The restaurant will create about 30 part-time and 10 full-time jobs, Goulas said.

Red Olive, which operates 11 restaurants, serves Greek and Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The restaurant will not serve alcohol.

Goulas, who started his business about eight years ago, said he’s been looking to open a restaurant in Grand Rapids for the last two years.

Goulas added that he wants to open two more Red Olive restaurants in Grand Rapids, one in 2015 and one in 2016.

“I’m very excited,” Goulas said. “I was looking for Grand Rapids for years to come up there, and finally I found opportunity. I plan to open a few more and give the people a good food at inexpensive price.”
