Fall Parade of Homes opens listings
Ah fall, that time of year when homes go parading in the region.
The 2014 Fall Parade of Homes by the Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids is back and scheduled to run today through Oct. 18.
The event will feature 34 homes in 11 West Michigan communities: Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Ada, Rockford, Byron Center, Caledonia, Grandville, Middleville, Hudsonville, Grattan Township and West Olive.
The homes range in price from $200,000 to more than $1 million. They showcase home-building trends in green sustainability, floor coverings, wall treatments, landscaping and more.
The homes can be toured from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Re-modeled homes can be toured from 1-8 p.m. on Oct. 17-18.
“It is always impressive to see what our builder and designer members have created,” said Emily Lubbers, executive officer of the association. “The parade is a great time to go through the homes to see what you may want in your home.
Building up economy
“This community event has been ongoing since 1986 and continues to be a great source for inspiration for consumers, but also a great source of business for the local building industry. It’s important housing continues to grow, because housing also grows our local economy.”
Every home built in Kent County creates the equivalent of three full-time jobs in the community, according to the association.
“Our builder members have been extremely busy this year,” Lubbers said. “HBA members have constructed 80 percent of the 489 homes built in Kent County through the first half of the year.”
