Grand Rapids Symphony salutes conductor
The Grand Rapids Symphony has something big up its sleeve for Wednesday’s season opener.
The day marks the beginning of long-time music director David Lockington’s final season with the symphony.
“Symphony in D” is set to be a tribute event that will be centered around Lockington and the symphony.
Performances will include classical, jazz and choral works reflecting his 16 years with the organization. Conductor Simon Phipps will begin the evening with Haydn’s "Symphony No. 73."
The black-tie event will be set up as a dinner theatre and begin at 6 p.m. with complimentary cocktails in the lobby at DeVos Performance Hall. The dinner and performance begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets to the event are $300, including the dinner.
