Hope College names VP of development and alumni engagement
The new VP of development and alumni engagement at Hope College has worked in higher education development for more than 20 years.
Hope College said last month that it has named Jeff Puckett to the role, effective January 2015.
Puckett is joining Hope College after serving as vice president of development and alumni relations at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis.
Puckett will oversee the completion of the $175-million fundraising campaign known as “A Greater Hope” in his leadership role at Hope College. Currently, the college has raised $172.6 million out of the total goal, according to the college’s website.
Puckett will also be responsible for multiple initiatives: directing and prioritizing additional fundraising activities; developing new strategies; and working to increase alumni, parent and community engagement with the college.
John Knaap, president of Hope College, said that as the college completes its 10-year strategic plan, Puckett will be a critical player in developing resources and increasing the engagement of alumni.
“Jeff’s leadership style is an excellent fit with Hope College, and he brings a track record of innovative thinking and professional success,” Knaap said.
Puckett said Hope College is "a truly remarkable institution," and he’s interested in working with the academic community.
“I look forward to partnering with President Knaap and the entire Hope College community on the development and advancement of its strategic fundraising initiatives,” Puckett said.
Under Puckett’s leadership, Beloit College saw a 45-percent increase in its annual budget-relieving fundraising base and closed a $100-million comprehensive campaign. The five-year campaign, “Classic. Daring. Life-Changing,” led to the implementation of “Fast Forward: The Campaigns for Beloiters,” which is designed to enhance the mission and reputation of the college.
Prior to working at Beloit College, Puckett served on staff at Washington State University from 1999 to 2010, with his most recent position as senior vice president and chief operating officer of the university’s foundation.
He has also held several positions at other institutions: associate vice president of development at Washington State; director of development at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska; and director of annual support programs at Elon University, N.C.
Puckett is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and Association of Fund Raising Professionals.
Puckett holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Elon University and master’s degree in English from Appalachian State University, N.C.
