Oprah Winfrey Network premieres show by 'pastor emeritus'
The founding pastor of a church in the area is going big time with a show on cable TV.
Rob Bell, the founder of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville and a pastor emeritus with the church, will debut “The Rob Bell Show” next month on the Oprah Winfrey Network, or OWN.
The show takes the air on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m.
Bell left Mars Hill Church in 2011 to pursue television opportunities in L.A. and has made appearances with Winfrey and Dr. Oz.
He recently accompanied Winfrey on a multi-city U.S. arena tour and earned his way to the network schedule.
“Whether you're spiritual, cynical, religious or not quite sure, Rob invites you into the questions, wrestling with what it all means and why we find spiritual topics so fascinating,” according to the network.
The show is produced by Harpo Studios, with executive producer credits going to Bell and Jonathan Sinclair.
Bell founded Mars Hill Church in 1999 at 28.
He shaped it into one of the fastest-growing churches in the country, while writing a variety of books, including New York Times bestsellers “Love Wins” and “What We Talk About When We Talk About God.”
In 2011, he was named one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World.”
Bell also runs an e-course through Oprah called “Rob Bell’s Practical Guide to Finding Joy and Meaning in Everyday Life.”
Preceding the premiere
Prior to the show, Own will air “Super Soul Sunday: Soul-to-Soul."
The show is a special edition of the two time Emmy-award-winning OWN series, featuring best-of moments with Pharrell Williams, John Legend, Tina Turner, Russell Brand, Alanis Morissette, Sharon Stone and Arianna Huffington.
