Brewery releases reserve beers
A brewery is releasing several special versions of one of its flagship brews.
New Holland Brewing Co. said today that this month it will begin shipping out its second 2014 reserve batch of Dragon’s Milk, a bourbon-barrel-aged stout, with the brew “hitting stores soon after.”
The reserve batch is aged with raspberries in bourbon barrels for three months.
The brew combines the rich vanilla and chocolate notes of Dragon’s Milk, with the tart and sweet flavor of raspberries, said Brett VanderKamp, president, New Holland Brewing.
"This reserve batch of Dragon’s Milk is ridiculously decadent,” VanderKamp said.
Earlier this year, New Holland welcomed spring with a Dragon’s Milk Reserve with Toasted Chilies.
“It will definitely appeal to those who love that tangy tartness of raspberries and those who are a little scared of the chilies,” VanderKamp said.
New Holland also announced four reserve products that it will release next November: Dragon’s Milk Reserve blends with toasted chilies, raspberries, coffee and chocolate and a triple mashed bourbon-barrel stout.
“The 2015 releases will definitely be an exciting and busy time in the brewhouse,” VanderKamp said. “These small runs of Dragon’s Milk are both to satisfy the creativity of our brewers, but also the palates of our fans. We think both will be happy with the results.”
Dragon’s Milk history
Dragon’s Milk was one of the earliest bourbon-barrel-aged stouts in the U.S. when it was first released in 2001.
For much of its history, the beer was a single-batch annual release. In recent years, Dragon’s Milk has become New Holland’s largest selling year-round beer — and one of the only year-round bourbon-barrel-aged beers on the market.
New Holland’s expanded production facility in 2011 allowed the Dragon’s Milk cellar to include more than 2,000 oak barrels at a time.
In 2013, the beer took home a silver medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge.
