The director of a county veterans office in the region has resigned as authorities investigate claims that he asked for cash and other favors.

The Calhoun County sheriff's department got involved after the widow of a Navy veteran said Scott Losey asked for money to help with an application for survivor's benefits.

Losey resigned Monday from the $64,000-a-year job.

Capt. Steve Eddy said investigators have seized a computer and other documents from his home in Portage.

Emails released by the county show Losey asked people for cash, Christmas presents, gift cards and pain medication.

Losey denies any wrongdoing, saying the emails were jokes or were taken out of context.
