A distributor of janitorial cleaning products has acquired a firm on the state's east side.

Nichols in Norton Shores said yesterday that it has finalized an agreement to acquire Professional Sanitary Supply, its third deal in an 18-month period.

“The joining of these two quality companies allows us to strengthen our presence in the Great Lakes Region,” said Mike Olthoff, CEO, Nichols.

Nichols has operated in the West Michigan area since 1936, supplying various industries with cleaning, paper and packaging products.

It has opened branches in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Holland, Traverse City, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Fort Wayne, Ind.

In October, the company acquired Kellermeyer, a 70-year-old distribution company servicing Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. In 2013, Nichols acquired Industrial Cleaning Supply, another Detroit-area distribution company.

Professional Sanitary Supply was founded in 1997 by Pete and Judy Evans, servicing the Greater Detroit market with janitorial and industrial supplies.

The pair will join the Nichols team in the Detroit branch.
