GVSU produces Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
Grand Valley State University is hosting an event this week that will help female entrepreneurs develop a pioneering mindset and create stronger startup ventures.
GVSU’s Richard M. and Helen DeVos Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is hosting the educational conference and networking event — Develop Your Entrepreneurial Mindset: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs — this Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., in Grand Rapids at the Eberhard Center, at 301 W. Fulton St.
Develop Your Entrepreneurial Mindset will feature a panel discussion, breakout sessions and a keynote address by Rebecca White, director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Tampa.
The panel will be comprised of five speakers: White; Keith Boswell, founder of Perceptint; Kevin White, visual designer at Visual hero; Deborah Tacoma, CEO of Freedom Creators; and Kelly Hassberger, owner of Grand Rapids Natural Health.
The breakout sessions will focus on topics such as creative funding sources, successful female entrepreneurs and role models and artists as entrepreneurs.
Shorouq Almallah, associate director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at GVSU, said the entrepreneurial journey can be difficult to navigate alone.
“Attendees will be able to surround themselves with like-minded people and a great network of resources that will help them navigate the entrepreneurial journey, discover their strengths and develop their entrepreneurial mindset,” Almallah said.
White’s keynote address during the event will discuss how attendees can learn their entrepreneurial profiles and the latest research on what defines the entrepreneurial mindset.
An accomplished entrepreneur, educator and business leader, White is also the Walter Chair of Entrepreneurship at the University of Tampa, founded and directed the Women’s Entrepreneurship Institute and provides training and mentoring to business owners and management teams.
Her primary research and teaching interest focus on opportunity recognition, strategic leadership in equity backed companies and entrepreneurship pedagogy.
Registration is open until midnight today and costs $50 a person.
Tickets are not anticipated to be sold at the door, due to limited seating.
People can register online by scrolling toward the end of the event's web page.
