A credit union is building its new headquarters on a 22-acre site in the region.

Consumers Credit Union said yesterday it will build the three-story, 80,000-square-foot headquarters in Kalamazoo, at the intersections of Ninth Street and 7200 Elm Valley Drive.

Construction will begin late this summer.

The credit union is planning to sell its former offices at 6850 Stadium Dr. and 7040 Stadium Dr. in Kalamazoo. Consumers said that it’s also planning to open a new retail space for Stadium Drive.

The credit union serves more than 61,000 members at 16 offices in West Michigan.

New space and “commitment”

The headquarters will focus on sustainability in design and wellness amenities for employees and include collaborative workstations.

“Our new headquarters brings us the space and infrastructure needed to support collaboration and teamwork,” said Kit Snyder, president and CEO, Consumers Credit Union. “It also becomes one central location for recruiting and retention of West Michigan talent.”

Snyder added that the headquarters project “underscores” the credit union’s “strong commitment to West Michigan.”

“We are very proud to build our new headquarters in Kalamazoo, where we have been for nearly 65 years,” Snyder said.

AVB in Portage will manage project’s construction.

HOK will lead the project’s the design and engineering.
