Beverage distributor wins national Lifetime Leadership Award
A man who’s been working in the beverage distribution industry for decades has won a national lifetime achievement award.
Henry Fox, Jr., chairman of Henry A. Fox Sales Co. in Grand Rapids, will be awarded the 2015 Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Wholesaler Lifetime Leadership Award.
The award will be presented at the association’s annual convention on April 13 in Orlando, Fla.
Distributor who “defines excellence”
The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America is a national trade association that represents more than 350 companies in all 50 states. It acts as the voice of wholesalers in Washington, D.C.
The association’s Wholesaler Lifetime Leadership Award is presented each year to “a distributor whose contribution to the association, the community and the beverage industry defines excellence, inspires loyalty and exemplifies leadership.”
“I am honored and humbled to receive an award for doing something that I have loved doing since I was a teenager in the 1960s — and that’s providing quality service, delivering the best products and giving back to our community,” Fox said.
Distribution career and family
Henry A. Fox Sales Co., founded in 1952, distributes its products to all 83 Michigan counties.
Fox began working at his father’s distribution company in 1963, while still a student at East Grand Rapids High School.
Fox took over the company during his senior year at Notre Dame.
He spent the next 50 years growing the Henry A. Fox Sales portfolio with a three-part corporate mission statement: give the best service; distribute goodness, enthusiasm and goodwill; and “sell our products.”
Fox has served as the president of the Michigan Beer & Wine Wholesalers Association.
Fox’s son, Brien, joined the business in 2000, following a 1997 graduation from Notre Dame.
He now runs company and will serve as the 2015-16 Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America chairman.
Henry A. Fox Sales Co. is a “success today, because of our team of men and women who work hard and put our customers and our community first every single day, for the past 60-plus years,” Fox said.
In the community
Fox has also supported a variety community organizations: Rotary International, American Cancer Society of Michigan, Mary Free Bed, Indian Trail Camp for the physically challenged and the United Way.
