King and queen of Netherlands plan Grand Rapids visit
The king of the Netherlands and his wife are planning a visit to the U.S. this spring, including a stop in Grand Rapids.
The Dutch Embassy announced yesterday that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will make the trip, which includes stops in Chicago and the nation's capital, from June 1-3.
It's the king's first official visit to the U.S. as monarch.
He became king in 2013 when he succeeded his mother, Queen Beatrix.
The embassy said it will release more details on the visit shortly.
Dutch Ambassador Rudolf Bekink said the visit "underscores the friendship" between the two countries.
The embassy said that the Netherlands is among the top five investors in the U.S. economy and the Dutch-American relationship supports 685,000 U.S. jobs.
