Packaging supplier renovates facility
A packaging supplier that operates at a former Lear plant is investing in a renovation.
Work started last month on a $175,000 renovation on a portion of the Kentwood Packaging Company, or KPC, facility in Walker, at 2102 Avastar Parkway NW, according to CD Barnes Construction.
The work is expected to be completed in May.
KPC specializes in making custom packaging for a range of industries: automotive, appliance, electronics, agriculture, consumer and furniture.
Grand Rapids-based CD Barnes Construction is the project’s contractor.
Architectural Concepts in Grand Rapids is the project’s architect.
Kirt Ojala, VP of business development at CD Barnes Construction, said the firm is “privileged” to have its “first opportunity” to work with KPC.
The majority of the renovation work will be done in a mostly unused portion of the building.
The project will add a conference room, break room, janitor’s closet and toilet rooms.
There will also be work done to renovate an existing conference room, expediting room and corridor.
The project will include a number of upgrades at the site: the removal of existing carpet and refinishing floors with polished concrete; walls repaired and painted; several doors replaced and added; existing wood ceilings cleaned and sealed; new lighting; and new countertops and sinks.
