Marketing firm adds employees, square feet
A local marketing firm that started the year with six employees said it expects to grow to 15 employees by the end of 2015.
Lead Marketing has already hired four new employees and will add the other five over the next several months.
The firm is looking for digital specialists, digital coordinators and account managers.
Tom Sullivan, co-owner of Lead Marketing, noted several of the firm’s employees have been recruited from larger markets.
“We are finding we are able to hire people to come to Grand Rapids to work for us,” Sullivan said. “Our last five employees have come from Chicago or Detroit to work here.”
Sullivan said in addition to wanting to work for the firm, the ability to attract outside talent shows Grand Rapids is becoming more attractive.
“I also think Grand Rapids is starting to be attractive to really young, professional talent,” he said.
The ability to add employees at the current rate has to do with the addition of new clients to Lead Marketing’s existing client base.
“The growth of our clients has spurred us to take on more work and responsibilities from them,” Sullivan said.
To accommodate the growth, Lead Marketing is undergoing an expansion of its 2311 East Beltline Ave. SE office. The space is growing from 1,836 square feet to 3,230 square feet.
Sullivan expects the firm’s revenue will also grow this year — by more than double.
Sullivan said advertising is changing rapidly, but one thing that stays the same in the work the firm does is keeping the client’s goals front and center. He said he looks for employees who understand how to use today’s tools to support the client’s end goals.
“Focusing on the strategy that gets to the client’s goals never waivers,” he said.
Sullivan founded Lead Marketing in 2008 with Matt Tiedgen. The pair met while working at local advertising firm Justice and Monroe.
Lead Marketing’s clients include Two Men and a Truck, Carbon Green Bio Energy, Consumers Energy, Brann’s Steakhouse, Alaskan Brewing and several others.
