ArtPrize reveals entries and venues
Grand Rapids’ international art competition has announced its entries and venues for 2015.
With a few months remaining until ArtPrize Seven begins, 1,649 artists can finish up their work and ready it for display at 162 venues across downtown Grand Rapids.
ArtPrize Seven will run from Sept. 23 to Oct. 11, with $500,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in juried and public vote prizes.
Artists for this year’s event come from 48 countries and 42 states.
The event’s 1,554 entries mark a slight increase over the 1,536 entries last year.
International representation among the entries grew 21 percent over 2014, with Japan leading the way with 137 artists.
The majority of U.S. artists come from the Midwest, including Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Outside of the Midwest, California, New York, Florida, Colorado and Georgia also have strong representation.
Artists and venues were matched during a collaborative phase called Connections, which was hosted online.
