An area golf course is getting a major overhaul.

Indian Trails Golf Course is set to see a major transformation and residents are invited to see the plans from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at Indian Trails, 2776 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids.

The open house will showcase the renovations coming to the city-owned municipal course with a complete concept plan. Included in the upgrades are a driving range and short-game practice area.

The $2.75 million project was approved by the Grand Rapids City Commission on Sept. 8.

Indian Trails was built in 1928 on undeveloped cemetery property and is part of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. It was under the city’s control until 1979, when it was turned over to private developers, before returning to the city’s control in 2000. During the 20 years of private operators, the course saw little investment, according to city officials.
