A furniture maker is in the process of expanding by adding a second building.

Holland-based Nuvar said yesterday that its newly constructed 45,000-square-foot plant will be open by December.

The building is located at 1021 E. 40th St. in Holland, which is down the road from the company’s original 75,000-square-foot plant, located at 895 E. 40th St.

Nuvar did not disclose the project’s cost.

Contract manufacturing site

Nuvar said its new plant will be used for increased contract manufacturing work and thermoforming.

The company is also adding a thermoformer and a 5-axis CNC router.

Nuvar will add 14 first-shift employees as a result of the expansion.

The construction project was started in March with the help of Dixon Architecture in Ada, Holland-based contractor Elzinga & Volkers and Chemical Bank.

Nuvar works with furniture customers, including Steelcase, Herman Miller, izzy+ and Cramer.

The company said the expansion is due to growth in new and existing customers.

Nuvar has grown its workforce by 25 percent over the past two years.
