Footwear brand marks 25th year of boot line
A footwear brand is marking the 25th birthday of one of its boot lines downtown this week.
Cat Footwear, a division of Rockford-based Wolverine Worldwide and a global licensee of Caterpillar Inc., will help welcome 2,000 international guests to Grand Rapids as part of Wolverine Worldwide's annual week-long conference.
As part of the conference, Cat Footwear is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Colorado boot, which officially takes place in 2016.
Dani Zizak, chief marketing officer for Cat Footwear, said the Colorado boot “transformed the rugged boot market,” when consumers began wearing the “authentic work boots as a personal expression of everyday style.”
She said Colorado boot consumers “created a demand for the fashion-driven product our brand is known for today.”
The Colorado boot is being recognized this with a special art competition in downtown Grand Rapids, which features artistic boots from all 140 countries where Cat Footwear is sold.
Each territory was been invited to work with a local artist to submit a piece of art, using a pair of Colorado boots as their canvas.
The U.S. territory's submission is a pair of Colorado boots designed by Liz Lomax, an award-winning 3-D illustrator from New York. Lomax’s work has been licensed and sold worldwide and featured in a variety of advertising campaigns and magazines.
Grand Rapids conference attendees will vote on the pair of artistic boots they feel best represents the spirit of the Cat Footwear brand.
The exhibit of Colorado boot entries will be on display at the Cat Footwear booth in DeVos Place from Nov. 10-16. The winner will be announced on Nov. 17.
The territory with the most votes at the end of the conference will walk away with $25,000 toward autumn/winter 2016 inventory.
Following the brand conference, consumers can expect to see a series of events, rollouts and promotions surrounding the Colorado boot in 2016.
