Change Ups: Professor receives HVACR honor

Mike Feutz, Ferris State University associate professor of HVACR, was honored by the Mechanical Service Contractors of America with the D.S. O’Brien Award of Excellence. The award is presented annually to an individual who exhibits extraordinary dedication to the HVACR industry and the MSCA. Feutz has served as faculty advisor to Ferris’ MSCA student chapter since 1998. The chapter currently has $16,000 in scholarships available each year for participants of this registered student organization.

Five East Grand Rapids public safety officers and a Gaslight Village store employee were recognized by EGR safety director Mark Herald for their efforts in saving heart-attack victim Tim Zych: Officer Jon Karnes was presented with the Life Saving Award; officers Pete Gruzin, Dan Lobbezoo and Kelly Kreiner and Staff Sgt. Eric Smith received the Unit Citation; and Grand Rapids Bicycle Co.employee Joseph Vanessendels received the Chief’s Citation.

Kent District Library announced Mary Ford has been selected as the 2015 Volunteer of the Year. She has served on the KDL Development Board and Gala Committee since 2007 and has been a tireless advocate and supporter.

Universal Forest Products announced CEO Matthew J. Missad has been included in Fortune magazine’s Businessperson of the Year list, an annual ranking of 50 corporate leaders.

Major George Davis of the Grand Rapids Senior Squadron received a Congressional Gold Medal, hosted by the Grand Rapids Metro Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. Davis served in the China-Burma Theater as a radio operator for the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
