Car dealer expands east
A car dealer is expanding his presence on the state’s east side by acquisition.
Todd Wenzel Automotive Group said this week that it has acquired its fourth Michigan General Motors dealership.
The acquisition of Red Holman Buick GMC in Westland, west of Detroit, is Todd Wenzel’s third Buick GMC dealership.
The dealership, at 35100 Ford Rd., will be re-branded as Todd Wenzel Buick GMC of Westland, and some renovations will be completed.
Many of the Red Holman employees will be retained, and the group projects about 25 jobs will be created due to increased sales.
“We look forward to maintaining the excellent reputation the team at Red Holman has built," said Todd Wenzel, the son of a GM employee and UAW member.
“It’s been rewarding to witness and be a small part of the resurgence of the West Michigan and mid-Michigan economies. It will be even more rewarding to be a small part of the amazing comeback from an area where selling cars and trucks is woven into everyone’s daily life.”
Wenzel first bought a Chevrolet dealership in Maine and operated several more dealerships in New England before returning to West Michigan in 2001, when he began operating a Buick dealership in Grand Rapids.
He then acquired a Chevrolet dealership in Hudsonville in 2004 and a Buick GMC dealership in Davison in 2014.
The group has become the largest Buick GMC dealership outside of southeast Michigan and the third-largest Chevrolet dealer in West Michigan.
