Hotel creates rooftop event space
A hotel in the region is renovating its rooftop restaurant into an event space and conference center — and re-branding its main-floor restaurant into a fast-casual concept.
CityFlatsHotel Holland said today that it will begin converting its CityVū Bistro, located on the top level, into a new event and conference space on Feb. 15.
The space is expected to re-open for events in March.
CityFlatsHotel said it anticipates the event space will remain open during holidays, such as Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
The hotel decided to convert the space due to the response it’s seen at its downtown Grand Rapids event space, The Ballroom @ CityFlatsHotel, which is regularly being booked for events and earning positive reviews.
The Ballroom @ CityFlatsHotel opened in the fall of 2012 and has been successful. The space was recently named Best of Weddings for 2016 by The Knot Magazine and expanded to include an additional banquet hall and conference rooms in 2015.
“The amount of weddings, special events and corporate occasions in The Ballroom made the decision to repurpose CityVū Bistro an easy one,” said Chuck Reid, president, CityFlatsHotel.
He said the Holland hotel sees an opportunity to “open the premier events location on the lakeshore,” noting guests can enjoy beautiful views of Holland during every season.
Charter House Innovations, CityFlatsHotel’s parent company, is overseeing the project.
CitySēn Lounge will also receive an update, becoming a fast-casual restaurant, which will feature a build-your-own pizza menu.
Guests will be able to order pizzas and flatbreads directly from the cook, choosing from fresh locally sourced ingredients, handmade doughs and sauces.
CitySēn Lounge will keep its full bar offerings and expects to unveil a new signature night with live music and food and drink specials.
The updated space will also have additional seating.
