A craft spirits maker in the region is set to release two new gins.

New Holland Artisan Spirits, a brand of New Holland Brewing Co., said last week that it will release two new styles of gin in 2016 to support its gin lineup of Knickerbocker Gin and Knickerbocker Barrel Gin.

The distillery plans to release both Blue Haven Gin and Brixx Barrel Gin.

“Gin is one of the great frontiers of flavor, where there’s lots of room for creativity and exploration for both the distiller and drinker,” said Brett VanderKamp, founder and president, New Holland Brewing Co.

Both gins start as Knickerbocker before following different production methods.

“We have learned a great deal about the flavors of gin and barrel-aging spirits,” said Brad Kamphuis, head distiller, New Holland Artisan Spirits. “Both of these gins explore new flavors that complement Knickerbocker. . . . We love that defining what gin can be is an ongoing conversation and discovery.”

Blue Haven

The single-batch release of Blue Haven Gin will begin showing up in April at retailers across New Holland Artisan Spirits’ distribution footprint.

Blue Haven Gin is made with blueberries from between South Haven and Grand Haven, “the blueberry capital of the United States.”

“Blue Haven Gin starts with juniper- and citrus-forward gin, which is then steeped on blueberries, adding delicate berry notes, slight, nuanced sweetness and an inviting violet hue,” New Holland said.

Brix Barrel

Brix Barrel Gin will begin distribution in July.

New Holland ages the gin in red wine casks, which “bring forward its floral character, while adding a velvet-like smoothness with the color of rose.”
